October Camarillo Grove Park New Playground & Hiking Trail Re-Opening Location: 6968 E Camarillo Springs Rd., Camarillo Description: New playground equipment has been ordered and will be installed in September. Construction is estimated to be complete early October. The Hill Fire had raged through this park and destroyed the old playground, so it had to be completely removed. The fire also ravaged large sections of hiking trails and made them unsafe for the public to use. The District has been working with FEMA to obtain additional funds to fix all the damage so that the entire park can be safely reopened to the public. The upper hiking trail loop has been closed for maintenance and should be re-open early in September. The birth of the District was approved by voters in the Camarillo community to provide quality programs, parks and facilities that can be enjoyed by everyone. The District is located in and around the City of Camarillo, serves a population of over 70,000 and covers an area approximately 45 square miles. It has grown from one park and 30 acres to 28 parks and over 300 acres since its inception over 50 years ago. Within the District, a variety of recreational facilities exist including: senior center, indoor aquatic center, community center, dog parks, lighted ball fields, tennis courts, running track, walking paths, soccer fields, hiking trails, picnic shelters, children's play equipment, skate park, barbecue areas and much more.
